  • 1987 S10 2.8 with automatic, torque converter

I bought a 1987 s10 without a motor. I put in a 2.8 from an 86 s10 blazer. I was attempting to connect the torque convert to the fly wheel and I noticed that I need to pull out the torque converter about a 1/4 on an inch to match it the flywheel. One of my friends told me that torque convertor will not work if it is not pushed all the way against the transmission. I am not sure what to do. I can connect the flywheel to the torque converter if I pull it out. Will this mean that transmission, 700rh, and the torque converter will not engage?

    Thanks for your time.

it is normal for the converter to sit back that far from the flex plate, and normal to have to pull it up 1/4". dont worry, it will still be engauged in the pump gears. thats how they are from the factory.

Thanks for your help. I was really hoping that you would answer my question. I tried a rough install of the flywheel to the torque converter, one of the bolts did not want to go in all the way. I am guessing there is some old locktite stuck in there. I did not want to crank it to hard. So I sprayed some penetrating fluid on the torque converter thread. I hope that takes care of it. I do not want to strip the threads on the torque converter and have to replace, and remove the transmission, when I am so close to getting this truck running.
