i have a 88 z24 with a 2.8 soon to be 3.1/3400 with a 5 spd but i dont like the 5 spd so i wanna go with an auto trans th125(3t40) witch is stock in the z24 but the gears are less that disireble is there anyway to make the th125(3t40)into a better performer ?
would a 440t4(4t60)fit in my z with little or no mods ? has any body done this before ?

I'm going the other way with my Celebrity. All of my 440t4's have had issues and later failed. The th125's are too busy on the freeway for my taste, adding steeper gears will just make that problem worse.

I would never swap out a 5 speed for a auto if you can drive a 5 speed keep it. if you think about it would you rather pay for a clutch or a whole transmission. Plus a 5 speed will get a lot better gas mileage unless you get a transmission with a overdrive and still might even if the auto has over drive

ah i know that the 5spd is better for performance specialy in a car with little power but it is anoying to go to town with a 5spd thats all up shift down shift thats why i wanted to do go with a auto but if i cant build one i am deffently not puting a stock one and i cant find any performance parts for it so i am sticking with the 5 spd i guess

not much you can do performance wise not shift kits 440t cant really get any hard parts and the 4t60 e the valve bodys ware out and you have shifting issues . 1995 4t60eup are the perferd ones ,4t65 is better but they all have the same problems with valvle bodys and shift seleniods . So if your going to rebuild one replace all the seleniods. Summax.com has valve body fixs for these trans .

yeah a 4t65 would be the trans of choies but thay are electroniclly controled and you would have to change the ecu and harness just to much trouble for me at this point
