So I'm having problems understanding just exactly what needs to be done with the ECU for a 5 speed swap. Theres about 4 different explanations of what you need/don't need to do to make it work right and they all seem to contradict each other.

It seems to me that sending the computer out to have the auto trans programming removed so that the engine will run properly and not throw codes would be the right way to do it. But where are you all sending them to to have this done?

If I'm wrong please tell me what needs to be done because I can't make heads or tails of it searching this forum.

The reason you are coming up with conflicting information is most likely because your search results are coming up with all of the different versions of computers, ie: OBD1, OBD1.5 and OBD2, all of which will have a different method. Do a search for a 5-spd swap with the author being heavywoody, as he has done the swap in a 96 Beretta. I'm pretty sure he described how he did his in one post. If not, just send him a PM or email via the site and he'll probably be able to answer your question.
