Ok boys and girls im bak with a brandnew problem, i just replaced my tranny 4t60e,97 Monte LS, with one from a 97 Lumina. Problem i have is that when i come to a stop, the tranny seems to disengage gear, just sits there like its in neutral, if i put it in park and back in (D) again it goes right away. The shifting is excellent, i didnt have time to change the filter(although i have it) and it took alot of fluid so far, almost 9 litres, I drove it for aprox 30klm then checked the lvl, it was down a little more than half a litre. Is it possible that there is something wrong with the internals in this one as well?

ok did some more driving today and put another 1/2 litre in, its right on the full mark on the low side, it still seems like it drops in neutral when i come to a stop sign or a light, but if i put the car in Drive, i dont have the problem at all, it stops and pulls away with no issues at all, its not giving me a check engine light,so im kinda stumped, although i have no real knowledge of how trannys work it really is messing me up a little. But there is one thing i need to know, when we were hookin the tranny lines up to the rad, i didnt know which rubber hose went on the lines to the rad, is it possible if they are reversed that i could have this problem, like the return going into the feed line?

Check that engine code. Might say its slipping or somethings not plugged in right/not running right maybe? Some thing is defiantly not right if you got a code.. I would think that the radiator cooling hose direction would not have a big impact on anything since it's just flowing through a coil inside the radiator and back to the transmission.
Did you run it back and forth through the gears before checking the level like you are supposed to do?sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

yup cycled through all the gears, left them in each gear for around 5 seconds each time, but its not throwing any codes thats the crazy part, if there was code i would have some indication on what is going on, the tranny the car was pulled from was writen off, the whole rear was destroyed right up into the rear seats, and it was sitting for probably 6-8 months. Is it possible that the seals have dried out causing this? Somthing i was lookin at after a whole lot of reading, was that maybe its the torque converter, even if i sound stupid, is it possible that the tc clutch is just completely disengaging when the car is in overdrive coming to a stop?

sounds like you have a band apply problem, you should take out the servo and replace the seals on it. ive seen that happen before.

ok going nuts, ive been reading so much stuff from a bad battery to the tcc solenoid and TC. lol too much time gettin the donor out and into my rig, total of 18 hours or more to get the job done, brain is fried, got 5 days off and i aint thinkin about the car. Drive works ok, so in drive it will stay(lol till thursday). If anyone has ever heard of this type of thing happening or something similar that could send me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it, no advice to go to a shop(no money, just a po boy, lol) Be back soon.

I've recently developed this same exact problem on my 4T60 (non-e). Not hurting anything yet (just like you, I'll shift it into neutral then back to drive and it'll be fine) so I'll probably just ignore it for now.
my dog bones are bad, I was half thinking that maybe the cable was getting pulled a bit when the engine rocks forward at a stop, causing it to pop out of gear, but it seems unlikely.-Tony | gtsdurango.net

This seems to be a really old thread, but my 92 3.1l 4T60 trans is doing the same thing in OD intermittantly, maybe once or twice a month I acquired the 91 3.4l Getrag to replace the car as my daily driver if it was a major trans prob, but I would like to fix it and use it as a spare, Prefer not to have a car payment... Anyone else with this problem and found a fix? TCC solenoid maybe? New fluid, filter. Problem began literally days after a trans shop dropped the pan, changed the filter and refilled w/ new fluid. At first it was happening at least once a day, but now it happens less and less.1992 Grand Prix SE 3.1l 155k SOLD

My wifes old T-bird did this when I changed the filter/fluid on it. Hers had the cherry in the pan still, so it was original fluid/filter -_-;; Someone had mentioned to me once that transmissions that never got their fluid changed are picky when it comes to fluid viscosity or something along those lines and that they make some sort of additive that you can dump in to make it act right. I think he said it was called a conditioner?-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

Gm automatic trans seal conditioner worked wonders for my car back in 2003 or so. It would not shift into gear when cold. Ran that and after it took affect the trans has not acted up since. It can be super cold and it goes right into gear.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)
