  • Hello,newbie needs help

Hello all. just found this board .
I had to put in a used 4t60e trans out of junkyard ,100,650mi. on it , the guy said it worked, prob. is it does work but only in 2nd and 3rd gear , now my old trans did this same thing so I put a tcc sol. in it , but finally puked for good
I took pan off and it is very clean , not burnt or brown fliud. I have checked all conn. and things look good. any thoughts . my ERLS fuse is not blown, which is how I knew the other was bad,(reason I bought tcc), I kept the tcc out of previous trans,
You think this one could be bad or what do ya'll think could be problem
this is a 94 Grand Am , trans out of a 95 GA
    TIA
    Scott

so you are saying that it shifts only into 2nd and third gear even in D?

that has nothing really to do with the tcc at all, it is just there to help with locking the torque converter to the trans for more controlled slipping to help with economy.

do you hear anything at all from the trans when it is running, like any clunking grinding, harsh engagement, etc. ill have to look at my service manual about the electrical apply chart and get back to you to see if you can tell if it is electrical

the problem is outlined on this forum, just click on the 4t60 link at the left or go here http://60degreev6.com/showthread.php?t=25031 and look at the electrical components link, it says that it will operate in 2nd and 3rd when the electrical syst becomes disabled meaning if you fried the TCM or dont have power to it, or power from it to the connector, they have the pinouts for the connector also, so you can grab a DMM and go at it checking power and ground and all the other good stuff
