I'm not too experienced when it comes to these 60 degree v6's history. I have a 96 buick regal with a 3.8, and have owned a monte carlo, corsica, and grand prix with 3100s and a 3.1. I love these motors, they run smooth, efficient, and are quite reliable (with aftermarket intake gaskets ha ha). I have 2 extra 3100s and in the process of rebuilding one (for now). I would like to drop one into a toyota 4x4 pickup and the other a triumph tr7, which have both, unfortunately, have cracked heads on their 4 bangers. I was wondering if anyone could help and tell me what RWD trannies will fit the 3100, 4x or 2x (maybe a blazer or Isuzu?). Also if anyone has any tips on the swap, they would be greatly appreciated.

the fwd - rwd blocks are different. the engine mount bosses are in different locations between fwd and rwd, so its not a direct swap, engine mounts must be custom made. theer are 2.8, 3.1 and 3.4l rwd motors, but all are gen 1 motors and all have cast iron heads. also, starter location on the fwd blocks is oposite most rwd blocks.
all 60 degree and most other gm v6 engines all use the small gm bolt pattern. there are lots of transmissions that would bolt up.
a t-5 is a popular choice for a standard, and there are numorious bellhousings for bolting a t-5 up. iirc, there is also a ballhousing out there (i beleive 2.5l jeep) that will allow you to bolt an ax5 or ax15 up.
for autos, you have a bunch of options. the th180 and th200 3 speeds are a direct bolt up. another option for a 3 speed is the dodge 904, its behind the 2.8l in the 80s cherokees. the 700r4 4 speed is a very good choice, they were put behind the rwd 660s from factory, and realy the only major difference to a v8 700r4 is the case, most of the internal components are the same, so they will take the power.
