hey guys i got the tranny out and i have a few days til i get the lsd so i figured i would do a little write up...

now you guys are on your own as far as removing the tranny..

    step 1 remove the tranny

with a clean work bench start tranny disassembly

slam a screwdriver or pry bar into the cover above and pry it out.. THIS COVER MUST BE REPLACED

picture of the detent assembly with the cover removed

now remove the two 10mm bolts that hold down the detent assembly..

there are four balls and springs in there DO NOT LOSE THEM

detent assembly removed here you can see the reverse detent bushing(must be removed next step)

these are my tools of choice to remove the bushing

how i used them to gently pry out the bushing

now remove all the case half bolts all 13mm

remove this bolt with a 13mm wrench so you dont have to remove the shift shaft cover

flip the tranny clutch housing up

no lift off the clutch housing half

clutch housing case half removed just pick up the differential to remove it

      differential removed

more steps to be added as soon as the lsd actually gets here

id like to note that you do not have to replace the detent cover if you get in on the edge and lightly pry it out. you bend the lip, but it is easily straightened then reasembled with silicone. ive done this several times.

another thought, if your going this far to pull it apart, you may aswell pick up a complete seal kit and reseal it, even if its not leaking. stop the problem before it starts.

Oh sweet. Mine needs a rebuild, but I'm not confident at all when it comes to transmissions. At least I can learn from what you're doing. If I had a spare one I'd rip into it though.
So far so good. Pics really help too.

there is actualy no gasket for between the cases, it is silicone from the factory. the seal kit includes the axles seals, front seal, shifter seal, detent cover plug and a new o-ring for the reverse light switch. for the little bit of money it it, is well worth it.

did you ever finish this swap? do you have any more pics? i want to do this to my 282 in my grand am and i also want to lower the gear ratio so it revs lower at cruising speeds.
