  • Are the HM282 and HM284 swappable?

So, I have a 95 Beretta Z26. Stock it comes with the 4t60-e but we all know thats garbage. Im going to swap it to a 5 speed but I was wondering if the 3.4dohc 5 speed tranny will swap in without much hassle? Ive read its a better transmission off the showroom floor. How much of that is true?

I have a decent supply of the transmissions so locating one isnt a HUGE deal. Its a bit more difficult to pull because of the cramped engine bay but I can deal with that if its worth it and it fits.

Will it bolt up to a 3400 without any issues? Am I just dreaming?

it will bolt to your 3400. you will need to use the dohc flywheel and clutch, not a big issue. the biggest issue is finding the stuff. clutches are not easy to get, and they are very pricey. the other thing is if you have problems with the tranny, there are no parts avalible (never were, all units were replaced and old units sent back to getrag for repair).

the 282 is plenty strong, they have been known to hold 400hp. parts are easy to find. they are just as good of a transmission.

        But will it hold?

Im not too concerned about finding the stock parts. Those are EASILY available around here. Seriously. I usually see atleast 2 complete cars with the DOHC 5 speed combo everytime Im at the yard.

I guess its something I'll have to think long and hard about.

well, if your going to be putting out more power than what the 282 will take (colin had 471 at the wheels with a 282) then you need to be running a 4t65e hd built up with the gm race stuff.
