  • 6spd tranny, clutch and flywheel info w/pics for the DIYer

    The 6spd clutch is at the top. Take note of the hot spot locations in the flywheel and how they corraspond with the areas of missing metal in the lip on the perimeter. The same thing happens to cylinder heads when you go hog wild on them during a porting session or at least to me when I did it to my chevy heads, didn't take long to make the connection with the higher temps.

    Specs:
    .................................4spd clutch vs. 6spd clutch
    Friction surface: 9.13" OD, 6.12" ID ____ 9.45" OD, 6.12" ID measuring inner and outer dia of friction material.

    Friction width: 1.5" disc, 1.65" pplate__ 1.66" disc, 1.825pp measuring width of friction material and pplate area.

    Spline number:__14.._________________23 with 1" diameter shaft

    Pressure plate: 5.87" ID, 9.18" OD______5.84"ID, 9.45" OD, measuring inner and outer dia of contact area.

        I must be out of space or something, the forum is not allowing me to add any more pictures or it has flagged me as a potential spammer.

        I'm tired now, you can go here to get the rest of the pictures;

            Its not going into a Fiero, but that will definately be of some help when I get my 6 speed ready to mate to my LQ1..

                    Here are some pictures of the short shafts I had made, you'll have to look up above and visit the Fiero Forum to get the rest of the progress to date because there are just to many pictures and too much typing required to duplicate it here.

                    Basically you would need to replace any male ended axle with a female plunge joint to button your original axles up to the transmission which you could pick up used from the salvage yard at much less than what it would cost to buy the axles designed for the transmission unless you could find them used which I doubt.

                    There is also a picture of the intercooler I intend to use and was considering mounting in the front of my Fiero and running the plumbing back through the rocker panels. There is plenty of room inside them to do it.

                    Ooops, those are flywheel bolts specific for the Pontiac G6 dual mass flywheel so if you are lucky enough to find one for a swap make sure you get the bolts because they are not for sale anywhere including GM and they have to be narrow enough to fit through the top part of the flywheel which they old style bolts don't leave enough room for you to get the right size socket through flywheel holes.

                      nice job with the r&d. ive got a chance to get a 6 speed for cheap, so im trying to find all the info i can. my biggest concern is the axles and clutch. having an external balanced motor is a pain at this point being i have to use a stock flywheel. i may get one custom made thats thicker. i have to do some research on the rwd 60 degree flywheels, iirc, they are thicker.

                      as for axles, will you be willing to give the job number for those axle adaptors??? what you did looks just like what gm did with the 4t40e passenger side axle.
