just wondering if any one makes a performance shifter for a 88 Z24 with a 5 spd like a hurst or b&m or would i have to built my own ??

Pretty good writeup. But those damn shifters still feel like a folding lawn chair.

yes the gm fwd shifters leave a lot to be desired. after 18 years, your shifter will likley be rather loose and sloppy. there is something you can do however. rodney dickman fiero makes a shifter rebuild kit and a transmission shift lever kit. the kit is a bunch of bronze bushings and stainless shafts, and you drill and install the bushings so everything is tight and smooth as butter. after that, you can do the short throw shifter with the instructions posted above.
