  • 1988 chevy celebrity, suspension upgrades???

    Hi,

New here, love the place, tons of info.

Not finding much on the celebritys, obvious reasons
Mine has the MPI 2.8L and 4speed trans.
120,000 miles but little to no wear and tear, all highway garaunteed, my great aunt owned it.
all suspension looks new, rides like new..
    there in lies the problem.
Waaay soft ride, almost like the springs are too soft.
What can i do with the suspension on this platform? besides fancy shocks and shopping for pontiac 6000 parts (lookin, cant find any 6000's yet)
Im gonna see about polyurethane sway bar bushings. how about a rear sway bar?
    Wider wheels? what fits?
too much bounce right now, bottoms out, floats all over the road causning unwanted steering and "light feet"

so, lay er on me, what are my choices?

THANKS a ton for any help.
Great site, keep up the good work.

hahahahaha i thought you werent going to post here.

my dad bought an 88 celebrity new in 89, but it had the iron duke.

maybe the eurosports came with stiffer springs and/or better swaybar(s)

The euro's came w/ the F41 suspension and that would make a good upgrade. Or if you manage to find a parts Citation X-11, grab it. The Z-19 sus. is full race. Eibach(sp?) used to make lowering progressive rate springs but good luck finding them. Um, I *believe* you can also use the REAR struts & springs from a '84-87 fiero for the FRONT of your car, check the top strut bolts first. Also Addco makes a rear sway bar (part # 325 I think) for the Celeb's. Hope some of this helps.
Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performance

cool, i wasnt going to post but though, why not.
theres a eurosport sitting not far from me on my way to work but i dont have room to buy it up and part it out, maybe some junkyard hops.
Even just a rear sway bar and some polyurethane bushings would be a nice upgrade. and definatly something to make it stiffer.
we'll see, keep the ideas rollin... if there are any

Contact RacerX11. I'm sure he has at least a few spare parts lying around his garage or buried in his basement.
