  • 17 X 9 inch rims on GTP

I was looking at these rims

and i want to buy them for my 91 GTP, so i called the company up and they said that the bolt pattern was the same but they dont know if the backspacing is going to work, or if there will be enough clearance, has anybody put 17 X 9 inch rims on these cars? this rim is a replica of a saleen mustang rim, if anybody has any input that would be great
    thanks

Is the bolt pattern 5x115mm, or the Mustang 5x4.5" (114.3mm)? They are different.

just go to a local place and test fit a similar rim. I fit bullitt mustang rims on my old alero. They were 17x8 with 29.5 offset and fit perfect. I would think on a grand prix a bigger car you might squeeze them with the right offset....oh yeah a wider rim equals wider tires.....I rocked 255/40/17s all the way around......

OK, i ordered a rim a few days ago they said i could try one to see if it fits, and it wasnt supposed to come in until next week and it showed up today, and it fits perfect, i am so happy, i dont have tires for them yet, but im gonna mount it again tommorw at work and take some pics, i never would have thought that 17X9 's would fit on this car but they do , i think im gonna put 245/50Z/R17 tires on it, but if 270/45Z/R17 fit in the wheel well then ill run those.

why only 245 or 270? I dunno if you'd get away with a 270. I could see a 255, or POSSIBLY 260, but i'm unsure. You're not lowered though right? You might be able to get a 270, but it'll half your turning radius. And you have to love the W turning radius the way it is stock :P

heres some pics of the rims alone on the car no tires yet, cannot afford it. But the rims look good, there gonna go on my dark blue car so they will stand out nice.let me know what you think.

something in the 255/40 range? 245 is too narrow for a 9" rim. 275/40 is perfect but dunno about clearance.

i'd buy one of the desired size tire and mount it, get it on the front with the car on the ground, and check clearances at full lock both ways.

wish you were closer, i'd like to check on the fit and i'd throw a 275/40 your way to test fit. i keep different sizes of tires and wheels on hand for test fitting purposes. i got some 17x8's for the Z34 for my street tires. sticking with stock 16's for the track, need to get some sticky r-compounds for it.

I think you're gonna be off on clearance by quite a bit with a 275. I think you'll see that a 255 will be as wide as you can go. One way to test it is to take the tires you have now, turn the steering full lock both ways, and take measurements when it is at full lock. See how much clearance you have, and that will be a good ballpark at least.
