  • how to swap drums for caliper & rotor ?

anybody know what brakes can be swapped onto a 95 olds? I got drums in the back and would love to swap the rear brakes for a caliper set up

most newer car are 4 wheel disc, you might look at yards to find a setup from a malibu or impala, lumina, maybe a buick or gp, grand am, minvans, maybe caddys. mostly just look at how your entire hub bolts on and see what the donor would look like to get an idea of work involved. not sure on how the proportioning would go either. make sure its a comparably heavy car so you dont snag something under powered.

being a cutless, you might try to find out if the dohc model had 4 wheel disc, then it might be as easy as swappin oem parts.
If you aren't friends with a liar, you aren't friends with anyone.

Lumina Z34 came with rear disc and I believe uses the same rear suspension as the Cutty.

I have a Z34 here and just verified that it does. You need brake parts? I think this car is now mine, the owner has left it her for a few months now. LOL

The Pontiac 6000 STE (non-AWD) from ~'86 to '~'89 had rear discs, and would be a direct bolt-on swap for your Ciera. The only issue might be ABS sensors, as I don't know that the STE ever came with ABS.

I am using an early '90's Ciera rear axle on my X-11 with the STE discs. The Lumina and Cutlas Supreme IRS is not the same as the beam axle of the Ciera/6000, so I am not sure if the brake parts would swap over.

Would you happen to know if the beam axle from the non-AWD 6000 STE would swap over to the L-body? Or is the shape/width different?

                Thanks!

I am pretty sure the 6000 STE used the same MC and PV for both rear drums and rear discs. You could always try it out with your stocker and see how it works. I am using a F-body MC and Wilwood PV, so I have no idea how a stock setup would work.

I don't think you can swap the entire rear axle. The 6000/Celebrity/Citation uses a twist-beam axle setup with the beam directly between the wheels, but the L-body uses a setup where the beam is forward, and the wheel hubs are mounted to something similar to trailing arms.

Here are some pics of a Cavalier rear suspension with the STE rear discs(thanks to Curtis). IIRC, the Beretta uses a suspension very similar, if not identical. Maybe Curtis can elaborate on what modifications were necessary to fit the STE brakes.

its looking a little bit harder to swap out right... getting the parts from an STE is really hard as there werent many with all discs. there's gotta be another option
