  • Brake pads.

Just to give my experince here, i have went tru Hawk " sports" pads, EBC "green stuff" and satisfieds ceramix, also went through a napa ceramix. All had the best rotor (soild) i could buy. The best stopping distance so far was with the EBC "green stuff" at 132 ft from 60-0. I set up cones in the I.U. parking lot of their football stadium in the off season, used some cones and a couple of friends with the "walker" wheel tape measure for the distance accuracy. The car is a 1995 Grand Am SE, 3100/4t60e combo. Wanted to "maximize" the stock set-up ( i know, big oxy moron there) But, just yesterday i a needed brakes and wanted to try the factroy stuff, to see if they made any improvents in product. Boy, did they ever!! I measured them this morning and got 126 ft from 60-0. Yes i know, it was cool outside and they are new, but still, thats pretty damn good for the stock rotor size and all. I used all gm rotors and pads, the dealer said these are specific to this car, Gm does not do a "one size fits all " anymore. We'll see how they do overtime. I see a lot of people refuseing to use factory stuff, insistint on the aftermarket, but sometimes, the factory stuff is pretty good, fits great and doesn't cost any more than the aftermaket. Just wanted to share my experices in this matter.

The dealer is incorrect that the parts are car-specific. The 92-98 GA's share the same core brake parts as 95-05 Cavaliers and Sunfires. Albeit improvements have been made over the years. I'm currently using the EBC Greenstuff's with Powerslot rotors. They seem to be a pretty effective combo. If what you say is true I might have to give the newer GM pads a try next.

Honestly, the new GM pads and rotors did the best i have had on the car. I do not have part #s on my recpeit, but am going to try to get them so i can tell you guys. I also want to stress that all the stuff was BRAND NEW and i have all new lines that are less than 16 months old (last summer those got done) and i run valveolines syntech brake fuild. I am very curious to see how they will preform at 10,000 miles on them. I had the EBC "green stuff" too, and they did great over their life cycle ( i got 32, 000 out of the fronts) But for right now, i am really impressed with how these are doing.

I got some slotted rotors, Good Ridge lines and Preformance Friction pads. I'm going to throw those on very soon, before it freezes here. I'll let you know how the results are.

I use EBC GreenStuff and EBC SportGroove front rotors on my Olds CS. It's a potent combination, although, they do make some noise. I don't care, about that...I want a car that stops...and this thing does. The rotors are slotted and dimpled. In 60-0mph stopping, it's consitently under 120 feet. Best it ever did was 115.

On longevity, I have about 25,000 miles on this combination, installed at the same time of course. There is about 25% pad left, and the rotors are wearing pretty well. No real grooves, although, there is a definite lip at the outer edge of the rotor. They won't be able to be turned, I don't think, but will have to be replaced. It's a spendy proposition, really...about $270 for the pads and rotors from Tire Rack. I may try some Hawk pads next time around, with just a slotted rotor. I had a slotted rotor before these from Raybestos, and it actually didn't wear at all. I replaced them because I cracked one. Will definitely need to bleed these brakes as well, and may install braided stainless lines up front.

I'm glad to hear that the EBC green's are getting good reviews - I just bought some a few weeks ago. Right now I have crossdrilled rotors with Raybestos quiet stop pads - they were really good until I heated them up, now there no better than stock.

I plan on using the EBC's with a slotted rotor - not drilled and a set of stainless brake lines. I hope that will get this thing stopped a little quicker.

Slotted rotors for the 92 Z34 anyone?

i practically had to relearn how to apply the brakes when i switched to my greenstuff pads... they grab quick and dont fade till they get really hot (as in autoX hot.. )

                Brake pads

Yes, the Green stuffs were the best that i have had on my '95 ga for their life expectency. These factorys i have on right now (just put 350 miles on them now) are still doing great, and honestly, it is a toss up at this point on which is better for my application. I have always had the factory size soild rotor, so maybe thats why these factory pads i just got are doing so well, as they were designed for that kind of rotor. Where'as the Tire rack told me that the Greenstuffs REALLY resond well to a performance rotor, like the power slots, just to name one. I have never had a performance rotor, so i'll see. As soon as i can locate my f'n recpeit i'll put the part numbers on here of the factory set-up that i have, so far, so great with it.
