  • Sway Bar.

I've got the '95 Ga (170,000, still alive!!!!) SE. Seems that unless the car had rear disc brakes, there was no rear sway bar. Hell, i have been under the car a million times trying to figure out what and where the sway bar would get attached to. I looked under a gt, of course it has the reardisc brakes. It seems that the whole rear axle beam is different on a gt, and the gt has the monting area right beloew the rear shock mounts. I don't have any thing. My car has ureathane bushings in the control arms, higher durameter bushings in the rear axle beam, uerathane bushings in the front sway bar, plus the front came with the Gt bar, and uerathane end links, front srtut tower bar, Moog higher duremeter strut bushings too. Needless to say the front end is nice and stiff. Tracking is great too ( for sensatracs any way) I just need a rear bar. Any help is graetly apperiacted.

P.S. If you have all those mentioned bushing replace with the good stuff as i did, have DEEP pockets. The labor on the rear beam was unbeleviable.

Rear swaybars weren't introduced on grand ams untill 96 and even then it was only the ones with the FE3 suspension package (check the sticker on the spare-tire cover). The 95's share the same rear suspension as the 96-98's so there should be provisions for a swaybar on your setup. The Haynes repair manual has a good undercarriage picture of a pre-99 N-body with a stock rear swaybar in it. Also, rear disk-brakes weren't introduced untill 99 with the redesign of the N platform which is very different compared to ours.

Mantapart.com is the only place that makes a custom rear swaybar for 95-98 GAs but their reputation is questionable.

        sway bar

Funny you should mention "Mantacrap" cause thats exacly where i oredred a rear sway bar from. 26mm, paid 175.00 though paypal, this was back in MAY!!!! They won't return my calls and i have yet to see it. They only answaerd on e-mail out of 30 or so, telling me a refund is not possilble, only exchange for store credit. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM MANTAPART!! I'm not expert, but i have the Cliton Manual and it shows the rear bar being attached to a drilled out extention of the lower shock mount. The body of the bar sits in the beam. I don't have the extension after my rear shock, the shock just bolts to the bottom and there is no more room. If some one has the time I'll get a digital camara from Mom and take a pic, then send it so you can tell me "yea" or "na" Thanks for all the help!

          sway bar

Hey!! The link to the Bertta is the same type of rear beam i have! Looks like you drill into the spring perches to mount the bar. Any one know if the rear beam is the same on Bertteas as our cars? Like length, and spring perch height?

              sway bar

Looks like that they are the same bar. The stock number is 446 for an addco 1-1/8" rear bar. I'll give that a try. Looks like it just bolts on to the lower spring perch. Thanks for all your help!

your grand am may have the internal rear swaybar. its bolted/welded in the V of the rear axle beam. Base models did not get the bar, but some SE's and all GT's have this bar.

I am not sure how the grand am is but I know the 95 beretta is welded in the v of the axle.

It seems that the L-bodies had theirs welded on but on the N-bodies, the rear swabar was bolted on and removable (hello junkyards!). I dug up a thread over at gmperformancetuning.com about the various suspension packages of grand ams.

The packages are identified via an RPO code of either FE1, FE2, or FE3. The difference between 1 and 2 seems to be the diameter of the front swaybar. And the difference between 2 and 3 is the addition of a rear swaybar. I made an error in my first post in this thread. The FE3 package was available to 92-98 grand ams.

                            sway bar.

well do i have a treat for all my 60degree brothers. My car when i bought it had no spare tire cover and spare. i got them out of a junkyard off a fur door '94 that was a different color too. So, can i go to the dealer and get what my car has on it with the vin? I have been told there is alot of important info on that sticker, so it sounds like i really need one.
