  • Smoking Rear Brakes..please help

So I did the rear brakes, turned in the calipers, put in new pads, put it all back . Made sure the wheel could turn freely.

So now I drive, left side starts to smoke, then stops, then the right side starts and stops. Smells like pads are burning, and paint on the calier is bubbling.

So I drive it again, and no smoke, nothing.....put the car in D and it rolls like it should. Put the P Brake on and in Drive, and it holds.

    What can be wrong ?

    thanks,

If it's not doing it anymore, it sounds like the pads were just seating themselves to the rotor.

Smoke is somewhat normal when the pads are brand new. But if it returns after the first 100 miles, make sure the parking brake mechanism at the CALIPERS aren't holding a little bit, then eventually release as you drive. Spray lubricant where the parking brake lever arm meets the caliper body, then apply and release the parking brake and see if the hub turns freely. If not, hit the levers back with a small hammer and see if it frees up then.
