  • Bigger Front Sway Bar?

I have a 95 GP se with a FE3 suspension. Is there a bigger front sway bar off of another GM car that will fit mine??? I'm puttin on the addco rear swaybar this weekend, and was wondering if there was something bigger for the front.

    thanks

    RE: Bigger Front Sway Bar?

the DOHC cutlass convertibles have a bigger swaybar, that would work. Make sure it is the DOHC, because the 3.1's had a smaller bar.

        RE: Bigger Front Sway Bar?

I know it will work with the 94's GP's. I am not sure what changed between 94 and 95. Good luck trying to find one. There were a very limited # of 3.4 Convertibles made. It's very rare if you see one. Maybe the dealer still has them? If I remember right, there were 600 in '92, 1200 in '93, and '1600 in 94 made. Even less sure about the 95 production numbers for the 3.4. I saw these numbers on a website somehere, if anybody out there knows what the actual numbers are, let me know. I could be way off - Only relaying what I saw....

          RE: Bigger Front Sway Bar?

Lumina Z34's have the biggest front bar 34mm

my 1992 Cutlass Supreme coupe and 1993 Cutlass Supreme Conv. both have 30mm front bars

I swaped in a 34mm bar in my 1992 and all you need is the bar and new bigger bushings

Moog makes the 34mm ones you need for the frame brackets and GM makes the ones for the Control arm brackets.

          its a easy swap

PM me if you want more info

            RE: Bigger Front Sway Bar?

I had a 1992 Convertible with a 3.1 in it, and it's sway bar was significantly smaller then the ones in my 3.4's. We took the smaller bar and put it in a v60 members Cutty 3.4, but it wasn't a perfect fit. The larger bar was made only for the 3.4 Convertibles and instead of being tubular shaped it was more like a squared off shape. If Dave had one in his Lumina, it might be the same one, but I would doubt it, because a Coupe doesn't need the protection that a convertible does. Go to the junkyard and see if you can find a Lumina with a 3.4 in it and see if the bar is sufficient.

Well he has a 3100... and driving my mom's euro and my Z34, I tend to notice that the 3.1 seems to handle a lot more neutrally than my DOHC.

i dont know any city that has freshly paved smooth roads all the time, the ones here are pretty crappy sometimes. keep in mind stiffening things up may have an adverse effect, i noticed my j did better in some of the rougher paved turns than my TA, i think its because the softer suspensions can react better to rough spots. it still seemed to hold on alot better than my TA, i know the car is balanced different and weights much less, but for an ls1 car to snuffed by an old beat up cavi...

if understeering pig is nuetral... then yeah... sure.....

but yeah, you don't want to make the suspension adjustments through the sway bars anyway, they should be left for fine tuning. You want to make the adjustments through the spring rates.

Notice I said "more neutrally." I in no way feel this is a neutral handling car by any stretch of the imagination.
