  • brakes locked?

My wife was driving home (she has the white cutty), and she said the car was making an awful noise and the car would hardly go forward. She pulled it into a lot, and called for a ride home. She did not want to go another inch, because of the noise. The noise originated from around the drivers side front.
I won't be able to get to the car until tomorrow, but was wondering if any of you had any ideas what is wrong? She thought it may be the transmission - i said no way, it wouldn't just lock up like that, especially since there weren't any prior symptoms. She says "the car will go in forward or reverse, but it is like, it is stopping itself, it grinds, then it even makes a loud "clunk"." It was hillarious having her describe the sounds :-)

I'm thinking it sounds more like a locked caliper. This happen to any you before?

    Thanks,

I just noticed my signature didn't have my most recent change in cutty's. I still have the 93, but I no longer have the 92 - That went to the other dennis "rednblackcutlass". I have a White 1994, DOHC Convertible now to go with my black 93 conv. That's what I referring to as the white cutty.

Ben, why isn't my signature updated? Also, how do i get one of those donating member notes? I've given at least twice....

Man you guys are lively today. Nobody has an answer? I guess I would be better off talking to myself. "Hi Stan" - "Oh, Hi Dennis" - "How are you?" -"Fine, and you?" Ok enough of my dry humor...
Went back to fix the car this morning, and the police towed it! They said it was blocking the entrance to the school - That is BULLSHIT, it was partially blocking the right hand lane to the entrance to the school - But no means was it blocking the entrance at all - And it was actually about 100 feet from the actual approach. Why should they care anyway, it's the weekend. Now I have to wait until tomorrow to get the car - I hope anyway.
I guess it will be be awhile before I fix the car. I have to pay the towing fee, and the storage fee, and now have to pay to have it towed home - This really sucks ass!
It gets worse, The car is still in the previous owners name, she has a $300 parking ticket. She has owed me the title for over a month now. I bet they will try to make me pay her ticket from years ago. What do you guys think?

i got the car from the impound lot last night. my friend paid her ticket, and i threw away $200 for a parking violation that was completely made up. Back to the orginal problem now....
it ended up not being a locked up caliper. The bolt that holds the whole caliper bracket in, came out. It's the T60 torx bolt. Really odd, figured whoever worked on it last, did not tighten it up enough and it worked it's way out....

Wow, that's odd. I usually have a PITA time trying to get those bolts out. Glad to hear its fixed, but sucks that you had to waste the $$. Did you figure it out without having to have it towed home?

            Sorry Brad,
Somehow I missed your question. I drove it out of the lot, and the symptoms weren't there. As soon as I got off the dirt road (from the lot) however, it was grinding like mad. I looked and sure enough, the whole caliper was leaning forward. I figured the cal. bolt came loose, but it wasn't.
I parked it on the street, and went home got my tools, pulled the wheel off, and tada, the bolt was out, but was wedged close to the balljoint. Good thing too - Because AutoZone and such, was already closed by that time. So something went right that week.
I've checked it several times since - Yup still tight. Just a fluke happening I guess.
