I already know that if it was possible, I'd lose the park brake, but, is it possible to install the complete front brake system from a '97 CS on to the rear axle? Using the thicker and larger rotors with the dual piston calipers is just so tempting. Can it be done?

Yes it can be done. As I recall the swap is pretty straight forward. I'm also thinking about doing the swap. To attach the parking brake I remember someone using about 50 washers... I don't remember how though. I think I saw the picture / how to on GMForums.--Rob

you're out of your mind. Off the top of my head, I'm sure the master cylinder would be PISSED. 2nd off, if you were to somehow get them to work properly, your rears will lock up a bit sooner than the fronts.Brian

Well to be honest, our master cylinders are small enough and could stand to be a bit bigger. Look at a G-body master, compared to ours, and those cars weigh about the same as a W. The G's have much better, more sensitive brakes, no comparison, and they have a SMALL booster. Furthermore I've never seen equal brakes at all 4 corners on a FWD. To say the least the braking system would be quite out of balance. If you got a bigger master, put bigger hydraulic lines to go to the rears (like 5/16 instead of 3/16 or whatever they put back there) got some monster size brakes for the fronts, and can find a way to "tune" the brakes such that the rears won't prematurely lock in the rain, for example, then you might stand a chance. But this isn't just a bolt-in swap like the 94+ style rears.
Vented, dual piston rears are not needed for any of our cars. The rear brakes in a car with 70% of its weight over the front axle do not do much work. They'll just lock up and thats it.Brian

Oh wow I read that post wrong. I didn't notice the FRONT caliper part... Only got like 3.5 hours of sleep... was up 6am till 4am the next day... been kinda woozy all day.
No you can't keep the parking brake, front calipers don't have the proper hardware. However I'm sure it can be done. You just need mounting brackets for the calipers, the rotors should slip right on. I don't know how you would do the mounting brackets for the calipers though. Probably something custom.
I don't know if it would be worth the money or the trouble though.--Rob
