  • help my z-34, please

i have changed all 4 calipers, rotors and brakes...still the same..the car wont stop for shit...the pedal is hard, i have driven cars without power brakes and have stopped better...i was a complete dumbass on the rear calipers, i couldnt get them to close so i just bought new ones...how do i get this right? any help is greatly appreciated....
i also now and then get a check engine light and the computer says it my EGR valve, after i replaced it, it still comes on now and then.....there is no mechanical problem, just the annoying light... thanks in advance, Rocky

Check your brake hoses man. They may be swolen shut inside. My dune buggy did this and the peddle was rock hard but there was no braking action. We changed the hoses and now the brakes are so strong they suprise you when the lock up.

The DOHC brake booster hose is a piece of shit from hell. I bet its spongy and not worth a damn. That and the check valve on the brake booster are the 2 crappiest items on the brakes. Other issue, the rear calipers suck balls. Upgrade to the 94 rear brakes and it will stop much better than before (after you fix the hose anyway). Simple upgrade minus getting the parking brake to work.

Even a new EGR can be bad. It could also be a bad ECM or the wiring to the EGR, though I doubt its the wiring.

Just a guess, but your calipers probably would've pushed back in. For some lameass reason(I think so), they have to turn while being pushed and shit. its a pain in the royal ass, I can't even remember how long it took me. Be careful on getting a braided brake line however, if it isn't pre-bent for the 90* turn rigth before its hook up to the plenum, then you will kink it and break the braids. I just went and got a new one, and used that. It isn't mushy at all(yet). But my brakes suck bigtime. The pedal feels fine, but I have to really lay on them HARD in order to get the ABS to kick in on dry pavement. I mean I had to really hit that pedal.

To get the rear pad brake in on a z-34 lumina. you must dissasemble the hand brake assembly on the galiper. After all of the handbrake off it will let you with a loose nut (this is the piston galiper nut located rear of the galiper). while holding the screw( to prevent it to go in deeper into the galiper)turn the piston counterclock from right to left ,while putting pressure on it. it's a bit messy but it's the only way i have found to do it good luck [/img]
