  • General Coilover Debate

i'm comparing ffp coilovers to helldmotor sports. i have rear ffp coilovers and front st springs. now my rear coilovers have to always be adjusted when i hit a large bump. ANNOYING. do all coilovers have to be adjusted when they get airborne? plus recenly my spring came all the way out of its seat and completely screwed the inner sleeve. SUCK. and no i don't jump my car, i live in a city that spends NO DAMN MONEY TO FIX ITS POT HOLE FILLED ROADS.

basically i want to know of the quality of heldmotor sports coilovers? anyone have/or know of how good they are. i'm seriously considering buying front and rears from them.

Shane(RedZMonte) has the HMS coilovers. I'm sure he'll sell them to you cheap! They're some of the biggest POS's made for our cars. I don't remember every complaint he has for them, but I do know that they really tick him off.

Well, I want to buy these things too, and if they are not good enough for daily driving I don't want them.

not really. but u see what i really want is a front end that i can always keep lowered. just like with my lowering springs. and to be able to adjust my rear when i go to the track.

so hms coilovers are pieces of sheitz huh.

All coilovers are more-or-less the same. My friend has a 240SX with full coil-over suspension, and his are the same, if you get airborne, they might come out of adjustment. Just don't drive like a fucking maniac. What the hell are you doing that's messing up the adjustment on them? I'm sure you don't go off-roading in your GP.

As for the fronts, I'd stay with the st springs. FFP is coming out with front coil-overs soon, maybe those will be worth a look.

So, how are the pot-holes out in Cali? Not much freeze-thaw out there. That's how you knock your suspension and alignment out of whack. No off-roading required.

Then maybe coilovers aren't the best idea. Flex-a-form makes a rear lowering fiberglass mono-leafspring that's a direct replacement for W-bodies. Maybe you should look into that.

are the flex a form leaf springs out???? how much are t hey and how much do they lower the car? i'm still think my old leaf spring handles better than an independent suspension.

NO, not all coilover setups do this, how ever cheap set ups will. These setups use a threaded sleeve over a hacked up stock strut. This allows for the threaded area to rotate and even hop off of the perch. Neither of these are good things. A good setup will have a threaded shock body and a locking or sinchable double perches and collars. We have Kei Office coilovers on the 240, they are extremely well made. They are the full blown D1 setup and we ride it on the street to and from drift practice, and it still doesn't come out of adjustment (though my teeth due from the high springs rates).
