    ABS Problem

    Now for a real post My ABS and Brake light come on intermittently. I have new HiPro pads all around and fresh ground rotors. Brakes and ABS work fine. Any suggestions?

    Most common cause of the ABS light being on a malfunctioning wheel sensor. Do you have any way of getting it scanned?

      Just the Auto Zone thing. It started after the second tranny rebuild. I guess I can manually pull the codes...

        Ran the codes...Nothing. Lights are still doing their thing. And now I noticed sometimes, when I stop hard, the brake pedal drops with an audible "POP". About 1/2 " It has only done this maybe 5 times in a week. Sound like a Master Cylinder? Brakes still perform perfect otherwise. It isn't getting any worse or better.

          Sounds like an ABS thing to me. When the ABS kicks on in my car the brake pedal gets limp. As far as the popping goes I don't know. Another thing to consider is the ABS wire from the modual to the sensor. Those I,ve heard are the worst fro breaking more so that the sensor failing. It happened to me, they miss diagnosed my car and were going to replace the sensor but it turned out to be the wire. Too, bad cause the wire is over twice the cost of the sensor. At least we don't have that god-aweful, new genration wheel-bearing-ABS sensor-hub assembly bullshit. Just had to deal with that shit on my girlfriends Malibu. GM wants $450.00 CDN for that bitch, I found one for $175.00 but that's not the point. The sensor for my GTP only cost $55.00 GM suggested retail. But in the Malibu's situation, it turned out to be the wire as well so the, wheel bearing-ABS sensor-Hub assembly bullshit went back, Thank Christ.

            Interesting Lyle. Why is the wire so special? Made out of Platinum? I'll do some more exploring in that direction. Thanx.

              Apparently it's a specialy woven, high tensile wire that can handle the repeated osscilations from the steering and suspension travel. But for the amount they fail I don't think they are all that good. What they should use is the same wire that they use for leads on a competition subwoofer. Those wires make more cycles in one minute than your steering/suspension will in 10 years.
