oops, i dont mean the strut tower ,im talking about the strut assembly, with the spring and what not.

No, the top strut rod, bolts to the rubber damper. Which is held inside by that top cap with the three bolts. When you remove the top cover you will see the damper and the top rod nut. When you undo that nut the rubber damper will pull out. Then you will see the lower cartridge retaining nut, the one you need a special tool for. You remove that nut, and you can slide the whole cartridge out of the cylinder. You don't even have to remove the tire. Very simple.
Once you do that you will see how it works. I'd say one of the best designs GM ever thought up.
