  • Trailing arm 95 Cutlass replacement question

There is so much rust that the bolt bodies are bonded to the inner sleeves of the old trailing arm. I'm having to grind the heads off the bolts on both ends (at least that was the case in the forward end. Still working on the other end). The question is, now that the arm is free, I can flex the ears attached to the body by hand. I'm envisioning the whole assembly being ripped off the body from being stressed by the new trailing arm. Is this a concern? The car has been driven for some time with the driver side trailing arm rusted in half. Should I leave it off or is there a repair for the mount or just go ahead and replace it and keep an eye on it? I guess I'm inclined to do the latter.

yes, that it is a pretty valid concern. a lot of the W-bodies in the rust belt get sent to the junkyard because of it.

a skilled welder can fabricate some sheetmetal plates and reinforce the mount, i've had it done twice on the 95 MC.
