  • Question about wheel hub for 1993 Grand Prix STE

I need to replace the wheel hub for my daughter's Grand Prix STE. The car does have ABS, and here is my dilema. I purchased a Timkin hub assembly from Autozone but it did not include the sensor cable. Meaning this hub is incorrect. Apparently none of the normal parts sellers carry the bearings for ABS cars.

Looking at the Timkin's site as well as a few others. The exact model bearing I bought Timkin model 513044 is for ABS cars.

So I ask, who sells the correct ABS wheel hub besides the dealer?

Looking at carquest as they include in their menu to state ABS or non ABS, the hub that comes up is Carquest Performance bearing 513044, I have not looked at theirs, just looking online right now.

I was going to change this out tomorrow, looks like I am on a part lurk.

alldata is stating that the sensor and mounting bolt are supposed to be transferred to the new hub when necessary. from what i can tell, all front hubs were the same, regardless of being ABS equipped, but rear hubs changed depending on the presence of ABS.
1995 Monte Carlo LS 3100, 4T60E...for now, future plans include driving it until the wheels fall off!

You didn't mention Front or Back.... The front bearings are the same between ABS and Non-ABS... The sensor mounts on two of the bolts that hold the bearing assy on... The bolts and sensor go in from the back side.. The ring with the teeth presses onto the drive-shaft.... As Robert said, the rear bearings do differ from ABS to Non ABS..... Any parts store should have any parts you might need,,,, In stock,,,, Advance certainly does.... Changed more of these than I like to think!!!
      Hope this helps,,,,

Yes, I am sorry I did not mention front or back. It was for the front hub. I found out this morning that it goes together like you mentioned Walterdude. When I posted this last night I was tired and slightly stressed, from not getting full information regarding the repair at the time, and a kid who was being slightly impossible. Thanks for the information anyways. I think I have it now. Lot of work on this car this weekend. This bearing, brakes, and struts. Struts got postponed until I can get a canister tool as there are absolutely zero existing in San Antonio at the moment. Every place that does suspension pulls the whole strut and spring assembly. And no parts/tool shops can purchase one as they are no longer manufactured whatever that means since OTC still does.

Glad to help!! Not too sure what a Canister tool is.... But, I assume It's the spanner tool that goes over the strut shaft, from the top, to loosen the nut that holds the body of strut in the tube... My tool broke years ago... However it can be done without the tool... If you use a jack to raise the car on the side you are working on a little bit.. Not all the way off the ground,,, just enough to give you some room between the coils of the spring... Now if you lift up the bellows that protects the strut,,, you can get a pipe wrench on the nut and remove it... Might need a pipe on the wrench to give extra torque... Trust me,, it works!!
I also cannot find one of those spanner tools anywhere,,, Used to be a cheap and easy to get item....
          Well,,, good luck!!
