  • 94 cutlass camber adjustment

hello all, i replaced the struts on my cutlass . an then had an alignment

done. them mechanic said that rear tires have positive camber of 1.5 degrees.

looking at rear of vehicle the tires are pitched inward at bottom an outward at top.

he said to correct this a camber kit would need to be installed.

the original factory rear struts did not have a camber issue.
why due these new oem acdelco rear struts need a camber kit.
is this typical or poor quality control.

i would like to correct this myself do to cost.
but im not sure how to go about it.

i believe i need to get some camber bolts . an ah hammer
    then what .
will both of the large holdown bolts need to be replaced.
with camber bolts. or just the lower one.
an would any of the bolt holes need to be enlarged or egg shaped?

    Rob

You can grind out the holes in the new struts to allow it to travel more. I bought a camber bolt kit for my rears but haven't done it since it hasn't seen track use again. The top bolt is replaced, the bottom bolt is not.

      thanks for your reply Ben

is it necessary to enlarge the upper bolt hole in the strut .
or can i get the adjustment needed just by replacing the upper bolt
      with a camber bolt.

The bolt alone should work, but opening up the hold in the strut will mean you don't need the bolts, or it can give you even more room to adjust it.

I've had this same problem with both of my Luminas..... The sheet that Town Fair gave me said to elongate the top bolt hole in the struts.... It worked on the 93 Z34.... I had installed FFP coil-overs and the tops of the tires stuck WAY out.... I have a round file that fits perfect!!! The 99 I haven't bothered as it's just on one wheel and it really isn't that far out..
          Good luck,,,,

i've also done this when i replaced the rear struts on the MC... slotting actually doesn't take too long, even with hand tools.

the reason i ask is. i know i could get it pretty close eye ball alignment in the garage.

but if i take it back to the alignment shop . i imagine they wouldnt touch it unless , they could just make a simple bolt adjustment. you think
