  • W-Body Rear Suspension Swap??

I was just wondering if this has been tried I want to know how difficult it would be to swap the rear suspension set-up from a 96-06 W-body including spindles, lateral arms, and trailing arms. I know that the 97-03 N-body can use the lateral arms from the W-body, and BMR suspension sells the upgraded poly/ 1 3/4" tubular lateral arms and as well as the trailing arms. My question is, how difficult would it be to do a full suspension swap, I twisted one of my stamped steel flimsy lateral arms, and now need to replace it, my solution is to upgrade anything that goes bad, so has anyone tried this or is it not do-able? The struts look the same so my KYB's should bolt right up, or will those have to be improvised as well as far as strut mounts??? I would like to swap over to the W-body setup since there is far more options as far as performance brakes and suspension componets than there is for the N-body.

I took some pictures of a customer's car today at work, I know that this spindle isn't set up for disc brakes but the disc spindles' suspension mounting locations will be the same.

Dorman makes a replacement for the trailing arm, Its not flimsy like the stock one, but if you wanna do all the work for the w-body swap, I'd at least get all aluminum parts

I have the BMR style to put on my N body. And will look into that also. From what I have seen you will need the Wbody spindle. And may have to fab a bracket to mount the Nbody. Also you will have to use Wbody struts. And possibly fab a sway bar link. The Nbody sway bar connects to the spindle. I am not sure right now about the Wbody. Also you will have to check the top strut mounts for the same bolt pattern. Wbody and Nbody struts are definitely different. In stroke and mounting position as far as where on the spindle they bolt up. Also the brake line tabs are different. And possibly the spring rates. ??? It a kinda complicated project to get all of the geometry correct. I am not saying it can't be done. Just do alot of home work first.
