  • Question : 95 Cutlass differnet front brake size?

I recently purchased front and rear rotors for the cutlass, the back ones installed without a hitch, but now the front ones are to large for the current caliber bracket. The rotors i order where from summit racing and rotors both listed for use with stock bracket and caliber, is it possible i my cutlass has the wrong bracket or caliber. it is an SL 2 door with the factory 16 inch alloys. So back to my original question Are there Different rotor sizes, not like rotor thickness. sorry it i seem to be rambling

if it's like my 95 MC(and since they're both W's, i assume, yes), then the early cars got the 10.5" front rotors, and midway through production, they switched to i think 11.25"

Rockauto usually lists differences like that, measure your existing rotors and see if you can match them.

It turns out you are correct i brought into my college class ( it has gm specific training) and they told me the same thing, i now am debating between replacing the brackets for the larger ones (if possible) or just exchange the rotors for the small 10.5. What would you suggest?. Thank you for the quick replay, and sorry for my delayed reply

IDK, i just used the 10.5 rotors... not sure how easily you can swap the large brackets on....

The bracket is the same. The cars with the larger brakes had the mount welded up higher on the steering knuckle.

I thought as long as the rotor and caliper matched it did not matter if it was early or late '95. I don't think where the weld for the bracket goes matters. Am I wrong?

you could always go to a junkyard, look for an early setup car, a late setup car, and try bolting the caliper and rotor from the late car to the early one.

                free, just takes time.

The Gen 1 and 1.5 cars used the same caliper and bracket in the front. In order to fit the same caliper to the larger diameter rotor the mounting point on the steering knuckle was relocated. If you look at the steering knuckles at a junkyard you can see the difference. Or head over to the wbody forums where there are people more knowledgeable on the subject and have them point you to pictures. They used to have write-ups for changing the knuckles but all of my links have broken since the last time they revamped the site.

EDIT - A quick look at the parts interchange on rock auto shows the caliper from 88-96 or 97 depending on the model but they dont have a knuckle available for Gen 1.5. The Gen1 ones in stock only interchange to 94-95 depending on model.
