  • Question : Noise under acceleration

Not sure if this is a Suspension thing or a trans thing but when I do a hard Left under acceleration I get a popping noise that sounds as though it is coming from the Pass Side wheel well area (I know that noise like that can be deceiving) Checked all the CV's and the Boots are in good shape and does not appear to be any slop in the Movement and other Ideas what can cause this noise?

What kind of car? could be strut mounts.

FWIW my tie rods are original and have well over 200,000 miles on them and are in perfect shape (other than one boot is torn so I replaced the boot)

Make sure the bolts holding the mounts to the strut tower are torqued properly (25 N-M or 18 lbs-ft). If loose they can cause a clunk or pop sound under acceleration or braking.

My brothers beretta he had years ago made these popping noises when turning. It came down to worn CV Joints. The cage in the CV joint closest yo the Trans was wobbling under the added pressure when making turns. How did you check your CV joints??

With the car lifted and the wheels turned to a hard left and right and centered grab hold and try to move them in any direction.

and for clarity this is multiple pops clanks thumps whatever you wanna call it not just a single noise!

Multiple pops makes me think bad CV as well.. Does it change how much it pops or as often if you go slow whlie turning or fast while turning?

If its a CV it should pop faster when going faster and slower when going slower...

Allways Check Tie rod ends, Ball joints and inspect the bushings. My lower ball joints thumped when they where wore out.... mostly when going over bumps (the ball was seporating from the cup) Untill it broke... that sucked. If you have a warn out bushing in your control arm or something it could thump on turning, the rubber is deteriorated or missing in parts so it squishes up to one side and makes contact on the sub frame... could be a few things... Good luck!
