  • Cracking Noise in Front Suspension

I replaced my struts and shocks.

I have a very noticeable creaking cracking noise when I go over bumps such as speed bumps or up driveways.

When I drive sideways up a inclined drive way my whole front end makes a horrible popping noise.

When i go over speed bumps my font end squeaks horribly. Its worse as I go faster over bumps.

Ive replaced my shocks and struts, if anyone knows how I can fix this please let me know Im at a complete loss.

    Thanks you

Get a few fat chicks to push down on the front of your car and listen for the squeak. Make sure you bribe them with fried chicken. It could be anything. Sway bar bushings. control arm bushings. did you replace the mounts??

I'd start with ball joints and tie rod ends - check for play. If it is either of those items show show signs of wear replace very soon since a failure could be dangerous.

No did not replace the mounts. I want aware they were replaceable.

You would happen to have a link to these mounts?

Only mounts I could find is rear mounts. is there a reason for this.

Thanks for your help. Obviously you have too much time on your hands. Why even reply with such non-sense. How about those fat chicks be your sister and your mom.

Rockauto.com KYB model# SM5030 HD or SM5029 std suspension. the also list Moog and of course Acdelco. You can go to jegs.com as well and a local Napa. If the mounts have never been replaced they could be dried out and cracked and cause play in the mount. If that happens the strut can move up and down and make a clunk and squeak as it unseats and reseats from the mount.
You can check the ball joints and tie rods by jacking the wheel up and moving the tire. If it clunks going left to right tie rod is bad. If it clunks up and down then ball joint is bad. Usually you'll notice this from wandering front end when driving not a clunk on a bump.

No problem. You could also check out gmparts.com they only ship in US so useless to us Canadians. You would need the gm part # from your dealer. But the KYB's you can get at rockauto are cheaper as they're from wholesalers. Just make sure you know if you have heavy duty or standard suspension. Or phone them.

I know this is an old post, but I went through this recently with my GTP. It turned out the upper strut mount bearing was seized. Had them replaced and it is all good.
