  • Z24 RWD conversion

hey i have been thinking about covert my FWD Z24 to a RWD i know it's probley been talked about b4. but was wondering if there was a small rear that waould be close to the same width (maybe a rwd import or something) . i know that i will have to fab up some control arm's but was wondering if 2 lower control arm's and just the shocks would be enuf to hold it there? i am thinking that a panhard bar will be needed ?
i am trying to figure out the rear first and then i will worry about the motor later i think i will be staying with my 3400 or go with a 3.4 camaro motor

    thanks

use a rear out of a chevette. its about the closest to the right size. thats what we're using in our rwd crx conversion

Kinda suprised I've never seen that car talked about before. Of course, the guy who build it, sold it back in 99 or so... Still an awesome build!

That or get a strong F body rear end and have it narrowed. If you don't want to use leaf springs you could use coil over shocks and 4 links. I've seen some 4x4 trucks that didn't use leaf springs anymore that used them.

the 3rd and 4th gen F-body use the same axle as the regular S10 7.5" 10 bolt, the S10 with the towing package used the 8.5" 10 bolt which a pretty beefy axle. The 8.5" 10 bolt is just slightly weaker than the old 12 bolt axle that chevy used in all the old big block muscle cars from the 60's to the 70's and they are rated for about 650 hp with out modification, a lot more with better parts. Hot rod magazine built a chevette with a Cadillac 500 cubic inch V8 making 575hp and 650 lbs and they used a narrowed 8.5” 10 bolt from a 70 camaro and just did basic gear upgrade and added a posi
