I haven't examined them too closely, but when I pulled out the old front strut cartridges out of my 97 Lumina there was a lot of oil left in the outer casing cylinder. My manual pretty much told me to expect this.
But upon further examination, there appears to be a valve or hole in the bottom of the old strut cartridges that may have allowed fluid in and out of the cartridge from the outer cylinder.
I guess it was designed this way. But the KYB (Gr-2?) strut cartridge inserts i put in appeared to be sealed like a regular shock absorber.
The ride seems a little stiffer with these new inserts, even though my old stuff was probably worn out (car is over 108K) I guess my question is, what is the better ride, the original equipment or KYBs?
If I bought a new AC Delco complete assembly, are they made like the originals, with all this free-floating fluid in them?
