  • RSM Big Brake kit

D.O.H.C. asked me to take some pics of the brakes on the 92, so today I finally got around to it. Besides, it was a good time to pull the front tires and grease my greasables (ball joints, tie rod ends, poly sway bar bushings). What is pictured here is the kit that is installed on my car with the 13" front, and 12" rears.

    The fronts:

The only thing that holds the front calipers to the car, a pin with a "c" clip on the end...

    Pin removed...

Caliper swinging out of its groove.

The groove the pin sets in.

Anti rattle clips to keep them from making tons of noise since they are full floating.

The spacer is .4 inches thick

The "cup" that is held in by the axle nut is .25 inches thick

    The rears:

Apparently over time a parking brake cable can wear off the threads on adjustable ride hight rear struts/springs...

    The adapter bracket

The whole collection of pics since I have no idea what resolution these are going to post at:

It was a kit made by RSM racing to fit Corvette brakes on a W-body. They ran $2500 a set, but I don't know if RSM is still around.

I'm just going to continue making my control arms the allow me to use the 98 and newer knuckle and strut, and it will also keep the tie rod at the right height for that 1 1/2" drop

The caliper adapter bracket for the rears looks good. But for those fronts you would really have to trust the welds!!

That rear bracket should be taken to a machine shop and blue printed, from there anyone can have their own made by going into a local machine shop.

              $2500 is highway robbery...

The fronts also have the two allen head screws to help hold them on. Yeah, I agree, it was steep. I don't really care though, since I paid $2600 for the car. Basically I paid for the brakes, plus a Benjamen and got a whole car. The car easily was worth a lot more then what I paid for with everything that was put on it. The only down side, Nick, the previous owner must have thought everything was made of aluminum, so I have found plenty of under tightened nuts/bolds. Anything from starter power wires that made my charging system freak out a while back, to the rear suspension "sub frame" if you want to call it that that all of the lateral control arms mount to. Those bolt holes used to be round once, but now they are oblong, so I have dibs on that part when I part out the 91.

Is there any chance of getting measurements off those rear caliper brackets?? Those could be easily made. Also, is that just a standard rear caliper spaced farther out? If so, that would be an easy upgrade, the only challenge would be getting a 12" rotor with the right hat dimensions.

The rotors/calipers are from a 91 Corvette, so it wouldn't be as hard as you think. Just redrill them for our lug pattern. Ben and I have talked about taking the rear adapter bracket off and have them duplicated already.

Are the rear calipers are from a 91 vette as well? It looks like the same bolt spacing, just moved farther out. And it has provisions for the parking brake as well?

Yes, the rear is from the same car. And yes, I had the parking brake hooked up until my cable from the pedal went bad. I only used to use the parking brake to hold the car, unless on a hill, then I would put the parking brake on and leave the car in gear.

If the Corvette calipers just bolt on to the rear where do you find rotors that would work?
