  • front end drop

after hearing of the cost of lowering springs... i decided i'd be a genius and alter my stock springs... i did the front, cut off 22 inches of spring and added some spacers on the back wheels...didnt want to chop those up..

although I did get an inch and three-quarters drop on the front, i'm just not so comfortable with the fact that it's not suposed to be like that. I think i need to buy that lowering kit after all

has anybody else done something like this... I tried to post some pictures and put them on my photobucket site... some links:

Well it is better to cut springs than to heat them. Nothing bad will really happen except maybe a little rubbing. But thats normal for any lowered vehicle.

the main problem is there isnt a good flat portion of spring to sit up in the upper mount... i've got a an Eibach Pro kit ordered for tuesday...whatever that is. the guy told me the cheaper kit would have been a 6-8 week wait... so at least i'll get all four corners lowered to the same height.

when i used to cut springs in teh race car I'd cut a coil or two and then clamp and heat the last coil until it came together to look like stock again. the heat dosent affect this coil in a negetive way cause it never compresses it just rests in the spring perch.

Never heat a spring, it sags like no other and you can never get them even plus it weakens them and there more likley to break. cutting springs also increases the spring rate making them stiffer, so the ride gets a little harsh but it does corner better to a point.
