I believe it is. I was going to ask the same thing.

What I want to know is are rumors true about HM coilovers? Are they loud?

I know the tie rod will work and the driveshaft ends are the same, as long as the lower ball joint was the same diameter and went in the same way (top or bottom nut) then only the strut is an issue and im making custom coilovers so and i'd just fab up a upper strut mount to make them work.

my only concern is the lower balljoint and strut height. It might take a bit of work but its well worth it for the size brakes you get.

... did some searching and the lower balljoint it compeltly diffrent, the only way it would work is if the gen 2 lower control arm would work on the gen 1 subframe but i doubt it.

guy, held motorsports makes gen1 kits, hence the pic. Trust me, save yourself the headache and buy one if you want a coilover kit.

I have a full coilover kit, below i have a pic of the rear as well as the way my car sits with it installed.

as far as the noise, about 30 miles after i first put it in, it would squeak. After about 3000 miles, it went away and never came back.

p.s. the handling difference is insane!

spring rates are whatever you want within reason. i think the highest he can get are either 450 or 500lbs i think.

my spring rates are 400 front and 300 rear but they are rough on uneven surfaces. On the smooth pavement however they are awesome.

the basic kit will consist of the mounting hardware, perches, sleeves and springs. you'll have to supply your own struts. he can supply the kyb gr-2's but you can buy them locally and save yourself shipping.

he also can supply koni adjustable racing shocks but they are very pricey. the rear kit is a direct bolt in but you'll have to modify the front strut assemblies for the front kit. basically all you have to do is cut off the spring perches and a large square bracket if memory serves.

the site is called www.heldmotorsports.com contact lee and he shoudl be able to do something for you.

thanks, I do a lot of auto cross and i dont really care much for ride comfort if it gets me around the track better.

anyone auto X on here that could give me some idea of what kind of spring rates would be best?

                and thanks for the link

My rear FFP coilovers did the same exact thing with the sound. It would squeak for about 10 months of driving then go away.

I installed the Held coil overs in August, so far the only sounds I have gotten from them have been in the extreme cold of this winter. There is a 13 page thread on w-body.com with a complete breakdown of my entire suspension job. Including Held front (350lb springs) and rear (300lb springs) coil overs & kyb gr2s, Held Lateral links and trailing arms, PST rear 7/8" sway bar, front and rear STBs, front sway bar poly bushings, PST front end rebuild kit, MOOG inner tie rod ends.

Here is what I did to the front assemblies

FWIW, the ride is no harder than before with my blown struts, probably even a little smoother, the cornering is amazing and I'm still running crappy tires.
Oh, and my quarter mile time dropped by .3 seconds after the swap to 15.43 @ 88mph, my new best speed is 91mph, so I suspect there is still more left in it.

That looks awesome, thats exactly what i want. did you make those sleves yourself to stop the springs from comming out of place or do they come with the kit?

also, you wouldnt happen to know the free/uncompressed height of your front springs would you?

I think 2 were just shy of 12" and the other 2 were just shy of 11".
The white sleeves did come with the Held kit, you have to drill 2 holes in them to hold them onto the stock mount.

Mr. E, if you get them I'd be happy to help you with the install, Peterborough isn't far from my parents house in Lindsay. Overall the install took me 7 days to do, but we had some stubborn bolts that delayed everything by a couple days.

Well they arent in the budget just yet, right now all my $$ is going towards my hybrid turbo build, but i'm just about done with it and then I'll be starting on the suspension.

I was just curious what my options were in this area, I'm going to compare prices for what i can make them for and what the kit is and see, I'll probly go with the kit tho just cause its already all there and i dont have to worry about it and also while i have it all apart putting the motor/tranny in I'm going to do the coilovers and put all new balljoints and tie rod ends on as well since its apart and I think i have a tie rod end going anyways.

but anyways, wont be until sometime around march i put this all together, I'll keep you in mind tho when it happens.

The problem with building your own is the upper spring mounts. Some people feel its ok to just let the spring rest against the stock mount. In the front that won't even work unless you get a larger diameter spring. In the back that leaves the spring to find its own seat on the mount, if it doesn't seat correctly your going to get a ton of noise. The held rear upper spring mounts have poly bushings, and the front upper mounts have a bearing in them to allow the spring to rotate with the movement of the suspension.
