  • Installing KYB's,I have a few questions

I just purchased KYB GR2 struts(cartridges) and shocks for my '94 cutlass. I was wondering if there are any other parts that I should get before I install them. Should I replace the upper shock mounts or anything like that? Any tips for installing these? Thanks for any input.

Yes upper strut mounts are probably shot. Mine were at 100k. Expect the rubber to be worn out allowing the strut to wallow around and when you take them off the ball bearings fall out and be dry... You'll need a spring compressor and be carefull.

don't need a spring compressor for the Cutlass Supreme. You will need the special tool for the front ones (unless you are pulling out the entire strut assembly, but if you leave it in the car, front struts take less than an hour to do).

My upper mounts were fine on the fronts, but I replaced them anyways.

You DEFINANTLY want to get the rear jounce bumpers, and bellows. If you get a kit, I think the new ones come already attached to the bellows, so just ask for the rear strut boot's. I think they are $15 each. Also, if you get a lot of road salt in your area, you might want to replace the upper mount on the rears, but you might not need those.

This would also be a good time to get the rear spring pad thingies from moog. You can get them from NAPA. They are the white plastic looking things for the monoleaf.

        KYB questions

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll have to check into getting those other parts tomorrow. I'd rather have the parts and replace them. Rather than tear it apart and then have to run for parts because something is worn out. We do have a lot of salt around here,so I'll more than likely need the rear upper mounts.

I have only seen an upper mount blow out once. It was in one of Brian P's (rhedalert) car. It was not too bad, but it was a big annoyance.
