Is there a way to test the wheel speed sensors and the wiring? I'm going to borrow a scan tool, but I'm pretty sure that all it will show me is which side is throwing the code. I'm really hoping that it is only the hub bearing, because the thought of having to change that wiring out is enough to make me sick! The vehicle is a 2001 Buick Century.

The scan data will show what corner the problem is at, but it won't differentiate between a wiring issue and the actual sensor. I don't want to spend the $175 to replace the hub if it is only a break in the wiring. The bearing itself seems pretty good. There are none of the typical noises happening and there is no play in the hub.

when you find out what corner it is, do a resistance check of the sensor. if the sensor it bad, you will have 0 ohms (shorted) or infinite (broken coil). if it checks out ok start checking wiring. do a resistance check between the pin at the abs module and the sensor, if both wires have continuity, you may be looking at a bad abs module.

Thanks for the info! I just found out that the scan tool I had lined up will only do engine codes and won't communicate with the BCM. I'm looking at my options for my own scan software/tool, but am not finding any that are ultimately low cost (because I would have to buy a laptop!). Maybe in the future I'll lump that cost into a loan for building a new garage/shop!

id just head to a local shop and have them scan it for you. most code readers will only do generic obd2 codes (basicly anything emissions). to get abs gm specific codes you need a decent scan tool. you may be able to find an older one for under $500, but anything sort of currect is gonna cost ya $2500+.
like i said, take it to a shop and have them scan it. most shops will charge for it though.
