  • ABS light question

When the ABS light comes on, does it actually set a code that can be pulled just like a Service Engine Soon light? Does the data come through the same port and everything, would it show up just like a SES code does?

Does it keep a history? I ask because sometimes my ABS light comes on for no apparent reason, then after turning the car off/on it disappears. ABS works I know that, just want to know why the light keeps comming on, always seems to happen when I don't have my laptop with me.

    Thanks.

Is the car voltage low? That will trip an ABS light.

Also, my car always trips the ABS light when I turn on the 4 way flashers. My guess is the current draw of the bulbs causes a voltage sag and the ABS freaks out.

Car voltage is around 14-14.5 volts while running.

It happened on the way home again from work today, ran inside and grabbed my laptop, no codes or anything for it. Shut the car off/back on, didn't come back on :-/

A burnt out/loose brake light can set off the ABS. I've been having issues with mine lately too.

O really? How in the world could a brake light set off ABS?

Regardless it would make since, since one of my brake light bulbs keeps working/not working.

OBDII might use the ABS light as a general "Brake" error light saying you got a bulb out..

I know mine doesn't, but I'm not OBDII

Had the shop scan it, shows various things for the rear left wheel. Rear left wheel 0mph, rear left wheel low voltage, rear left wheel high MPH... connection looks good, maybe a bad harness? I hope it's not the speed sensor in the wheel.

Didn't seem to do this before my new rotors and pads.

He also said that older cars had their ABS wired through the third brake light, but mine doesn't.

Maybe you disturbed an ABS wire that had a broken wire in it? Maybe you need to clean the brake dust/metal dust off the sensor?

BTW, how fast is your car? Ever get a video of it driving? I've only seen one of it idling... heheh.

It's hard to tell how fast it is... haven't went to the track or anything, just got plates on it a few days ago and I've been tuning. I will get a clip of the exhaust tonight, it sounds great till I go over 2.5-3k then it gets bad, I'm ordering a big resonator to help take care of it.

It is MUCH faster than what I am used to though! Hitting 100 on the on ramp without realizing it, using about 35% throttle. According to scans I have never went above 40% throttle.

Hahaha sweet. Yeah I guess it's been running but still not tuned yet. Does the exhaust sound bad above 3k when driving too?

almost all abs issues is the plug right at the wheel sensor the wires will go bad get brittle and break, or the wheel sensors are bad... Especially if you were getting all those types of codes.

Also, ABS light can come on if the AUX terminal is loose. For some reason this stes off the light at random times... I still dont know why it does this but it does.

When I had my mechanic scan it, he unplugged each end of the ABS harness (the one by the wheel, plugs into body 1 end and into sensor the other). Said both ends looked fine and put them back in, showed me the codes/cleared them and I was on my way.

                            Haven't had the light since!
