  • Suspension & Tires?

    I have a 92' Z34.

Does anyone make stiffer springs for the front? I don't care about lowering to much, I am interested in something a little stiffer. I currently have KYB GR2's all around.

Also, on the stock rims, how wide of a tire can you go? Stock being 225/60/16. I was thinking of doing 235/55/16 or even try 245/50/16.

    Thanks!

    -John

245/50/16 is safe for a 7" wide rim minimum. Some people do it with a 6.5" rim but I don't recommend it.

As for front springs a 95 to 99 monte carlo spring will fit. ST lowering springs are the only spring which you can buy sets for the fronts only.

yeah, just get one set of 2. i personally wouldnt put 245/50's on a 7" wheel. widest i would go is 235's. fyi, on my 96 GP, ST springs w/ 245/45/16's lowered my car 3 inches from 225/60/16.

Thanks for all the info and help!

Much appreciated. I'm gonna order up those springs and get them installed by fall. Looking at the stock rims and tires, I'm thinking I'd have to get wider rims to put anything wider on the car. 225 width looks like its the max... I'd be pushing it with 235. I just wanted a little extra meat on the road.

          Thanks again!

97-03 Grand Prix's have 6.5" wide rims and use 245 tires. The minimum recommended wide rim for a 245 tire is a 7" rim. 245 on a 7" rim is SAFE.

225/50 tires to 245/50 will give you about a .5" drop in ride height. And the ST springs will and another 1" to 1.5"

im dont want to get into an argument and we could till were blue in the face, lol, but its just not worth it to me to try to put 245s on a 7" wheel, especially without a ton of sidewall IMO. i put 225-somethings on my xlaces just to test them out and they looked balooned out and i could tell right away by the contact patch that they were too skinny, but you can probably get away with them. every thing i looked at recommended a mininum of 7.5" wheel for 245/45s. IMO, 245/45 is the perfect size for 8" wheels

Looks like I'm gonna invest in a wider rim size. 6.5" rims are even too skinny for the 225 width that comes stock. With the weight of the car and the stock sidewall height, its not worth squeezing a wider tire on a narrow rim.

                  Z34Phoenix,
Those are stock springs for the monte carlo z34, correct? I want something stiffer than stock. I ahd replaced the struts but I think I would like a stiffer spring rate to improve handling. Sway bars have new bushings and I am still looking for the Cutlass convert. cross brace for the front struts.

Like I said before. I am not too worried about lower ride height (even though it can improve handling). Those springs that blackbombshell95 linked me to seem to be what I might need.

                  Thanks!

not sure if it is any help, but im runing 245/40-17's on a 7" wide wheel and the tire patch is fine. tire looks just a hair wider then the rim but if someone didnt point it out you wouldnt know. unless you were car crazy like most of us. when i had 245/45-17's the were down right lovely! looked completely square and the way they should be.

only reason for me having 245/40-17's is i got a killer deal on some pilot sport tires and with the tuner it was pretty easy to set it all up to correct the speedo.... and it helped the gearing too.
