  • Rotor Types

OK, This spring I'm doing the bargain brake up grade. Stainless lines, Carbon Metallic pads and Rotors. But, I'm debating on the type. Cross Drilled, Slotted or both, or plain?

Heard that in my climate cross drilled were a bad idea, because the will crack very fast. But if you think about it, won't slotted wear your pads super fast?

    Any input would be great.

You can get rotors that are dimpled instead of actually drilled aswell..

I put EBC Slotted and Dimpled rotors on the front of my Z34 (don't make rears) and they help fade conciderably.

You're not gonna stop faster unless you get oversize brakes or fatter tires, slots and drilled holes just help prevent fade. You'll just stop more consistantly as the brakes heat up slower.

non slotted is good, unless your making continous highspeed stops, and yes slotted rotors will wear our your pads quicker, thats what they are designed to do in a manner of speaking. They are there to prevent glazing. Also drilled rotors would only hurt you, unless you're looking to reduce weight for dragracing.

I'm probobly late on this, but I think I heard somewhere that I could use later Monte Carlo front rotors on my 93 Z34.... that the caliper was the same, just the rotor and pads had changed, one inch bigger rotors or something...... any truth in this?

That mod would put you over $900.00 USD for new parts. Not to mention if you wanted to upgrade your rotors. Might as well buy a big brake kit. They sell for 1100.00 USD for the whole front w/new high performance calipers, brake lines, pads and rotors. I think that is a better value.

Unless you find a junker, but you're still going to buy new rotors and pads, plus probably rebuild your calipers.

Hey, if a maufacturer claims they build there rotors to OEM engineering specs, does this mean they are a good quality rotor? There is this company called CC Rotorwork that will sell me factory sized slotted rotors, a set of 4 for $175.00USD seams kinda cheap. Is this possible without reducing quality?

$175 for four rotors? Well, OEM quality is a take it or leave it thing, I suppose. But that seems too good to be true, so....
But if they turn out to be quality - Hook me up Lyle!!

Well, unless someone on here gives me a good reason why not to buy them. I think I might. I'm probably going B.B kit in a year or so anyway. If they last a year I will be satisfied. Cause that's like $250.00CDN. That's cheap as fuck! So I will keep you posted.

They are about $100.00-150.00CDN per rotor for OEM. GM wants at least $150 per rotor. Also like $250.00CDN each rotor for Delco "Preformance" cross drilled rotors.
