  • C4 vette brakes

Has anybody ever tried doing a C4 Vette brake swap? I know RSM sold one. I'm wondering if they were able to use 100% stock parts or if anything was actually custom. There are also adapters to use C5 brake parts on a C4, so if C4 parts fit us, it means that the C4-C5 adapters could also be used to fit C5 parts. What's bringing this up is the near direct swap of the C5 parts onto 2nd Gen W-bodies and N-bodies.

    Thanks.

Not entirelly sure, I've heard it's possible with the 99+ Grand Am's and Alero's, the other N-body's are questionable, as are the W-body's.

Curious, though, why? I've heard that a lot of people with the blown 3800 GTP's run the brake rotors and components off the N-body's because it's lighter than their stock. Heaviest component on the newer designs is the rotor itself nowadays.

Actually, there are a lot of 2nd gen W-Body cars using F-Body or C5 front brakes.

IMO, the 1st gen and 1.5 gen brakes REALLY suck. Even with upgraded pads and rotors, they leave a lot to be desired.

Yeah, rears sucks for sure. I'd love to be able to know if the F-Body and C5 fronts can be retro'd to our Gen1 cars. I would like to convert over to the 2nd gen rear setup, to get that nice tophat rear drum in disc.

I had a question about this conversion for those who've done it:

Do you still have problems with warping the rotors like the stock setup does? Or not? I'd figure the more even pressure on the rotor applied by the C4 calipers would help eliminate this problem . . .

I did that conversion to my 2000 GAGT with C5 calipers. Since the 12" rotors have much more material than the original 11" setup, rotor warp is a thing of the past. Pics of the setup are here \/

That's real nice; just getting rid of that headache of warped rotors alone is worth the money for the mod!!!! Holy shit! I've had to cut my current set of BENDIX COMPOSITES 3 times this year, I might have to squeeze another cut cause they're starting to warp again already, it's irritating!

So, seeing as how in the thread on gagt I couldn't find it, do the stock GA chrome 16" wheels fit? I'd figure to go up to 12" you'd have to have 17" wheels, might be wrong though . . .

Just so everyone is clear. The C5 and gen 2 w-body front brakes aren't even close to fitting onto the Gen 1-1.5 w-bodies. I tried the swap with no success. The rotors won't even fit over the strut body. The mounting brackets are also completely different.
