I am thinking about taking care of this event for next year. South Bend/Mishawaka area in Indiana. We have a track, I can find a dyno, should be easy to find things to do like the college football hall of fame, large meeting area, and a great location IMO for a large turnout. We could do a mod day as well. So yeah, thats my pick for this year, if I am to be in charge of organizing it.

Cool If anyone thinks they have a better location, they have to be willing to organize this event, or lead the organization of it. After we have this settled, events should be planned and everything taken care of by march 2005. I am going to say july-august time frame again no matter where the meet is.Ben

I don't know how many people besides myself would be interested in autocrossing, but the South Bend region of SCCA hosts several events every year at the TireRack facility, which I hear is a very nice place to drive. Just a thought, but we could do a Friday evening drag night, dyno day/picnic/tuning session on Saturday, then autocross on Sunday.

The majority of us own W-bodys, which aren't famous for their autocrossing heritage. lol. But I bet it would be fun, and from what I ehar, Fieros have a nak for it!
I'd like to do a meet in CO someday, the scenery/mountain drives would be cool. But I don't have the time to plan it, and I'm sure no one looks forward to running a 17 second 1/4mi in their 3.4L TDC...

Yeah, tire rack does have a pretty sweet auto cross track out in front. I dunno what the charge would be or the availability. I have seen the miata club, vw club, and some bmws on that track before though. I can find out if there is enough interest. Its actually a track I would feel safe in a W body on. Its got a few stretches to open it up, and then some tight but not too tight turns. Definetly looked like fun
There is plenty to do around here, just not so exciting if you live here. There are 2 tracks, 1 I havent been to but is a bit further away, and another more local. That one isn't my favorite track but it works.Ben

Actually, it has a lot to do with acceleration, just in short bursts so you have to stay in your powerband. I don't know if I would want to race my car more than a few times since its not setup for suspension...but you never know. With the SCCA, wouldn't we have to be registered with them as well?Ben

nope. If you are a registered SCCA member, you can sometimes get a ~$5 discount on your registration fee, depends on which local club is running it. Otherwise, the events are open to anyone with a driver's license.
As for acceleration, I know I spend more time at WOT during a 60 second autocross run than during a run down the 1/4 mile.

Sounds like a great idea. It'd be a good opportunity to get a set of 4 tires at a good price as well. IM IN!oneoneBrian
