  • what type od engine will fit in my grand prix

i have a 1993 pontiac grand prix with the 3100 in it. what type of engines could i swap in in there to get as much power as i can?

3.4 doch and a 3400 will plug into every thing i think? dochs are hard to find but the doch has 210 hp i think it has 220 fb. 3400 has 170 hp 185 fb i think
Ford Guy says to we " keeping up with that General Maintenance as you drive a gm?' I say to him well when you found on road dead tomorrow, I'll be in the next province.

well it matters what 3400 you get :-)
      180 hp @ 5200 rpm (Impala/Monte Carlo)
175 hp @ 4700 rpm (Grand Am GT)
      170 hp @ 4700 rpm (Grand Am)
      185 hp @ 5200 rpm (Venture, Montana/Aztek, Rendezvous, Silhouette)

      205 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm (Grand Am GT, Impala/ MonteCarlo)
      200 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm (Grand Am)
      210 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm (Venture, Montana/Aztek, Rendezvous, Silhouette)

im building a 3400 now for my 95 grand prix, out of a venture naturally bcz it has more horsepower, i believe they get the extra power out little things, like a windage tray, and roller rockers, and stuff like that.

the only problem that i have come up with so far, is that my computer cannot be modified, so i will have to replace it if i want to get power out of this motor, its gonna be tough but all is worth it in the end.

No the extra power comes from exhaust and ECM tuning. All the 3X00 motors used trays and roller rockers (roller rockers after 96). Internally all the motors are the same.

And your GP probably has a 3.1mpfi in it if it's 93.

Yes, the varying 3400 power numbers can come from the exhaust.. I saw a downpipe from a Venture van and inside the 2.5" downpipe it reduced to about 1 5/8" in a cone shape. I can't fathom why the hell GM would do that...

for a 93 Grand Prix i'd reccomend a 3400, should bolt right in. your stock computer will run it (if you use the right injectors and FPR) and it'll make TONS more power than your 3.1

Well my 2" down pipe has a 1.5 restrictor in it too. Makes it quiet I guess.

I bet it helps TQ in the lower RPM's

You will run into issues with the rear exhaust manifold and downpipe mating up. All the manifolds with 3100/3400's are incompatible with the downpipe flange on the 3.1. There are also different variations of rear exhaust manifolds on the 3100/3400's depending on what vehicle they were in, so you will need to find a combination that fits in the GP. If the donor is say.. a Grand Am, it wont work.

I would suggest getting the rear exh manifold and downpipe from a 94-96 3100 equipped Wbody (Grand prix, Lumina, Monte Carlo, Cutlass) and put that on a 3400.

Also there are some wiring harness differences that have to be addressed, as well as some coolant line changes on both sides of the engine.

3.1 to 3400 is certainly doable, its just not an instant swap.

But.. seeings how this guy posted back in October 06.. he probably figured something out.
