Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and I hear that it's full of info on the 60 Degree V6 engines. I have an 86 Fiero 2.5L 5 Speed that I'm wanting to swap a 3.1 in. I got a 90 Lumina for free that had an engine out of a 94(3.1 though, not 3100) that I'm swapping in the Fiero. I removed the engine, ECM and AC off of it to use in the Fiero. I've relocated the battery of my car to the front compartment and plan on using the space where the battery used to be for the coil packs and ECM. What I've gathered so far is this:
I'm going to need a clutch and flywheel to get these mounted together. I bought a used V6 clutch off a local Fiero Forum member, but the material seems awful close to the rivets. I'm not exactly sure if it's usable or not, but its supposed to have only 5k miles on it. The pressure plate looks good though. He told me I could use the V6 clutch with the Isuzu throwout bearing and it should work. As for a flywheel, I know it needs to be neutrally balanced. I searched car-part.com and when I put in 88 2.8 Manual Fiero, S-10 and Cavalier flywheels popped up. Are these usable? I can get a new flywheel for a 2.8 88 Beretta from OReillys but it is 65 Dollars. If I could get one used cheaper I would.
As for a fuel pump, would you recommend buying a new one for a 2.8 Fiero or should I use the one from the Lumina? The Lumina one is free but has a lot of miles on it. I'm not sure what I could do on a fuel pump besides a 2.8.
The one thing I'm most concerned about is the wiring. Someone told me I could use the Lumina ECM with the Lumina engine wiring, and use my C500 block to wire power to the sensors, and use the c203(?) block to wire the starter and etc. I'm not sure if this will work or not, but this is where I need the most help. Im wanting to use the Lumina computer, but am not sure how I will get my gauges to work.
Motor mounts and exhaust shouldnt be too much of a problem. I have access to a welder, and most likely I will be dropping the cradle to make everything easier.
Air conditioning would be nice, but Im more concerned about getting the car running first. If anyone knows anything about this swap, I would really appreciate the help. I think Im headed in the right direction, but the more guidance I get, the sooner I will get started. Thanks!
