  • 3.4 DOHC clutch anticipation switch

I'm in the process of installing a 1992 VIN X into my 1988 Fiero 5-speed.

I have been poring over my ?88 Fiero and ?92 Lumina service manuals about the clutch anticipation switch for the D22 input on a 9396 ECM. The diagram in the Lumina manual shows the clutch anticipation switch wired in series with the brake anticipation switch. I know this is done to disengage the cruise control when either pedal is depressed. I don?t see how I can wire the D22 to this circuit without having a signal sent when the brake is applied. Is there another switch on the Lumina clutch pedal?

There is only two. The one on the brake switch, and the one on the floor-clutch safetly switch. If you talk to Ben aka sappyse107, I am sure he would burn a chip for you that would disable that input for a decent price. I did a 5 speed swap on my 91 Lumina Z34 almost a couple years ago, and he disabled that input, so I don't get any codes about a bad clutch switch.

If you count the brake switch then there is 3 switches. My clutch pedal has 2 switches. One on the floor for the starter and the other is at the top of the pedals throw for the cruise control - as soon as the clutch pedal is pushed even a tiny bit the switch opens and the ecm knows that the clutch is being disengaged and kills the cruise control. Otherwise, in the time it would take you to press the clutch to the floor to hit the starter switch the revs would rise.

Heres a little tidbit too .. I just ordered one of those anticipation switches .. ($10) and the dealer told me the 1993 didnt require that ..
But any guess why they didnt use those on 93s ?

Probably because '93's weren't available with a manual.

I'm pretty sure the manual was still around in 93...

Uh, 5 speed DOHC is 91-93 dave. There have been 2 people with 93s on the boards in the past. The last chip code forthe 5 speed DOHC was 93.

Hmm, I've never heard of OR seen one.... I just guessed the 93's were actually late 92's.
