will the 3.1 engine in a 98 olds achieva come out through the top?

im getting ready to take out my old worn out 3.1 will the motor come out through the top? can i just unbolt the motor from the tranny and leave it in place and just lift out the motor?

Yep. I've done it at least twice...

Yes, you can but make sure to get the engine good and far away from the trans before you lift it up significantly so you don't damage the torque convertor by pulling up on it by the center nub that sticks into the back of the crank in the center of the flywheel.

Also make sure you support the passenger-side of the tranny from underneath, before you pull the engine out. My friend has a '97 Skylark, same platform as the Achieva, and he got it out the top easily. You may have to undo the hood supports if the car has it, and prop the hood higher.
