    Still have not finished my swap. It's winter and I'm lazy. I really want my Trooper back for snowboarding though. While the '98 Amigo is sporty as hell, the small size is driving me nuts.

    Anyone want to buy a 1998 Amigo /w 3.2L DOHC V6 & 5-speed? It's faaaast.

    I do have the starter jig. But I wouldn't mind keeping it. I have a friend recently addicted to Troopers, and I think he will be doing a 3.4L swap in the future.

      starter jig

      I hear you. Where did you buy the starter relocater jig?
      I'm working on my '89 Trooper in SoCal (sunny, 65' F days thank goodness!) and am driving it back up to Portland after Christmas. I gotta get a move on.

      Also... parting out a 1990 Trooper S w/ 2.6L 4 cylinder 5 Spd. tan outside, dark brown interior... if anyone needs a part... let me know.

        Oh, me me me! I want:

        -The stereo mounting bracket and housing. If you don't mind cutting off the plug of the stereo wiring harness, I'd take that too.
        -The clip that holds either the vent selector cable, or the heater control cable in place. (or both, then I'd have a spare).
        -A set of four or five stock Isuzu steel wheels with hub covers and lug nuts (with the spring washers that keep them from rattling).
        -The drivers side headlight lens (assuming it's not cracked and rusty)
        -At least one spare tire bolt, and the stud to put a lock on.
        -The Isuzu badge from the grille.
        -The 5-sp and 4x4 shifter knobs (if they're the bigger imitation leather style, not the smaller hard plastic ones)

        If I didn't just buy a radiator, I'd ask for that... *grumble*

        Well, that's all I can think of right now... Can you do any of that? There is a Trooper in the local salvage yard that I have yet to pick over. Time and weather...

        I live about an hour from Portland, and I can wait 'till after Christmas.

          And to answer the relocation jig question:


          Go into the store and click the Tools tab, you're looking for the 3.4 Drill Jig.

            I've read your whole thread and very impressed with your project. But, I have a thought about your fuel delivery system. Did you realize that the 3.4 Sfi and the 2.8 Tbi use entirely different fuel pressures for operation? The 3.4 runs about 40-45 psi and the 2.8 uses an even lower 12-15 psi (this might be off slightly I haven't dealt with tbi in a while). Which means that your fuel pump will not supply a sufficient amount of fuel for your new application and it will need to be changed out to a higher capacity pump. I'm not telling you this to burst your bubble. But just to let you know before you crank it up for the first time and it doesn't start or runs like do-do. Keep up the good work. -Jason

              Yep, one of the first things I did. I already replaced the fuel pump with one from a multiport injected Isuzu.

              By my reckoning at the time, that should get me the needed pressure. I did buy a fuel pressure tester to verify, but I haven't had it fired up yet...

                Great! I'm glad to hear that, I didn't see that in your thread (or I missed it) so I was a little concerned. I'd sure hate for you to do all that work for nothing. Hurry up and get to work! -Jason

                  Put the gauge on the engine test port and hotwired the fuel pump. Steady 45psi.

                  Unfortunately, I found a fuel leak. Smack in the middle of the steel line between the tank and the engine bay. Everything else held just fine though. Well, my cheap-ass test gauge leaks too, but that doesn't count. I'll probably never use it again anyway...

                  So, what's the best way to patch a steel fuel line?

                  FYI, for those interested: The fuel pump I'm using is from a 2.6L equipped 1st-Gen Isuzu Trooper. I just bought the whole assembly from a salvage yard, dropped right in the tank and plugged into the factory wiring. Cake.

                        Get a new GM Mini starter found on the FWD vans and cars. Smaller and quieter and packs more punch. From everything I have read and seen it is a direct fit. But I wont know for sure until I try it on my Trooper when I make it a 3.1L

                          I already ordered an OEM style. It'll be a couple weeks or so. I have things to do in the meantime. I'm getting kind of excited now that I'm to the point where I can (in theory) start it. Not quite drivable yet, but we're getting close.

                            I picked up another Trooper on behalf of a friend. He'll probably be buying it off me in a couple months when he gets done moving closer. It's same as what I'm working on, 1990 LS. This new one drove about 200 miles to get here, but it's missing #6 entirely which is looking like the intake valve is shot. I think it's a different issue, but it also cuts out like mad when driving. The guy I bought it from said that was a new issue (after it had been sitting for the last year). The friend that drove it for me said it's fine when you're cruising (other than the weakness of running on 5-cyl). I have the spare 2.8 if I want to pull the head, but I think our time might be better spent going straight for the 3.4 swap. I'm not in a hurry to work on this one, but it was a fair deal so I wanted to pick it up.

                            I think I'm going to scavenge some parts from this new Trooper in the meantime. Borrow the fuel line, front drive shaft, etc. Save me the trouble of going to the junkyard for now (it's cold out there!).

                              IT RUNS! MY ISUZU TROOPER WITH A 3.4L SFI RUNS!

                              Gonna put in some hard work tonight and tomorrow, and maybe I'll be able to drive it this weekend! I'm pretty freaking thrilled. This rig has been down for over a year. Nice to hear it run again.
