  • 99 GTP -> 3400

    I may try to pick up a burnt 99 GTP (engine bay) for $2000 and am thinking of putting a 3400 into it. Would this be worth the effort, or should i just get a supercharged 3800 (which i have found on one with transaxle and supercharger for 2500). Or just repair the current engine???

    Anyone got any suggestions?

      Well.. im going to call the guy tonight, offer him $2000 cash for the car..
      Provided i can comeup with it.. hehehe I need my own car so bad and i would love to pick up a GTP

      Well i guess (if he accepts) i am going to either try to repair the current engine in it, or if need be i will swap in a new Series II 3800 instead of the 3400 since you say performance wise the 3800 would be the better choice.

      What type of things should i watch out for, what should i ask about that is cooked under the hood???

      Ive never taken on a task like this so i dont know what to ask or expect???

      Only visible damage i seen was the hood is black from the fire so it needs minor body work that i can see. but im expecting that all the wires and plastic components are melted and maybe some stuff is fused in the engine?? maybe not??
      Do you think i may be straying somewhere i wont enjoy being?? What do you guys think..

      All help is welcome and much appreciated

        I think aaron needs to go join clubgp.

        The L67 would be much easier to play with in a 99 GTP, since that is what it has stock and you wouldn't have to wire anything or change the computer. I disagree on engine sound, I think the 3800SC sounds like ass, but thats opinion. Performance potential, the L67 has aftermarket and companies doing lots of shit to them, so their potential is actually being seen. The 3400 has little market but to say it can't have equal/better performance is against this site's policy of thinking. Many variables...lots of ways to go about it but again, sticking with the L67 makes so much more sense for a 99 GTP.

              Botht he 3400 and the 3800 SC came in the GP. But if it was a GTP, then 3800 SC is standard. I said engine sound becuz of the blower whine, I LOVE THAT WHINE!!! But the 3400 cna be made to sound good too.

                ok aaron, the 3400 came in the grand prix in your universe, but not the reality I live in with the rest of this board.

                      Beings that Grand Prixs have that nasty ghetto booty.....the 240 hp engine is the way to go. I honestly have no idea why you would want to put a 3400 in a GTP....

                      BTW..
                      SEs got 3100s.
                      GTs got 3800s.
                      GTPs got 3800 SC....SC stands for supercharger.
