  • F&$king AC bracket/dogbone mount!

So I put in my 3400 (2001 replacing 1989 2.8 in W car), and now find that I can't bolt the AC compressor up! I read on here somewhere that I could use either the new or old bracket, that the new one was multi-piece deal but the old one was a one piece deal. At first I tried to put on the old one but found that it didn't fit due to changes at the bottom of the block casting vs. the 2.8. Due to changes in mounting boss location, the die grinder can't fix it. Next I tried the new style bracket and found that I had no compressor mounting provisions... I assume this is because I am missing a piece of bracket that the engine did not come with?

Can anyone tell me what they did?
Anybody have the necessary bracket for sale/lying around in the garage?

    Thanks
    Kurt

Update: Going to junkyard tomorrow. 96+ compressors mount directly to block, and older style (pre -93...?) style brackets don't fit the block. I am going to see if I can find a 94-95 W bracket to try to find something that will fit old compressor to new block.

OOh can't belive I misssed this one. Use a braket from a '91-'95 pushrod W car. It'll bolt up to the block and the compresser will bolt to that. Or yeah you can use the '96_ compressor but youl have to change your hoses, get the torque strut bracket that the compresser bolts through and rewire to delete the switchs on the old compressors back side. You then need to ue 134a.

You guys kill me! LOL! Nobody answered so I spent a happy day getting stung by bees in the backwoods trashy salvage lot, figuring the answer out myself, and then I come back all excited to post the answer that I found, and y'all already answered it when I came back with pics to explain it. AHHH!

JK, well anyways I am putting the pics up on my Cardomain.

Yeah, I hate how that works out sometimes. If only you waited just a little longer... The main thing I guess is you got it fixed!!!

BTW this is good info to know. Hopefully I'll remember it some day if I get a gen2 car and do the swap.
