best engine for boost....??

looking for a viable engine to swap into the Fiero with some boost to boot.

please vote on the poll and list reason below.

options as follows: 3.4L iron block TDC, cadillac 3.6L aluminum DOHC, 3.9L VVT-i (aluminum? not sure here), LX-5 3.5L aluminum DOHC 90*.

i think the 3.9vvt will provide the broadest curves for maximum fun if you set it up properly. the vvt is worthless unless you controll it somehow, like an rpm activated switch, or since your putting the time and money in might as well get the right engine managment. personaly i'd de-stroke it or use the 3500vvt. the shorter stroke means longevity for the transmission.

I'm not sure why you call them "exotic" but the main reason I'm considering the DOHC engines is the higher revs that they afford. Plus it's easier to dial in the cams without swapping them out if you needed to change the overlap or valve timing. the 3.9 was thrown in there because it's new and i've driven the G6 w/ the 6 speed.... i was impressed at how well it pulled no matter where you were in the rev range or what gear you were in.

the other reason, aside from the TDC, the other 3 blocks are aluminum and that saves weight, which is good.

i was once told that the best engine for boost is one that has the greatest effeciance n/a, and since an engine is nothing more than a self perpetuating air pump, it stands to reason that it would be true... not that it helps your descision any

i personaly would opt for an engine that made a good amount of torque down low to offset any turbo lag... but if you are going with roots or lysholm(spl?) style then that wouldnt be as much of an issue, or if you had a light car.

the best answer I can give is all of them, in the same car together hahahahahahahaha
